The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia begins a new stage in which, as until now, its most solid foundations will be neutrality, political plurality and, above all, commitment to municipalism, whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of the residents of the 45 municipalities that make up the Region of Murcia.
The Federation plays a fundamental role in advising and supporting local public administrations, which, as everyone knows, are the closest to citizens.
Currently, there are dozens of tasks and projects that the Federation leads, precisely, to collaborate in the daily management of the town councils, always attending to the representatives, mayors, councillors, and municipal technicians, but also to other social, economic and educational organisations, whose work influences the exercise of governance in the town councils.
Among the outstanding projects are those financed by the European Union, a key element today in order to truly achieve the values that mark the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, with fundamental axes being sustainability, inclusion, equality, local development, etc., to achieve the transformation of towns and cities into resilient, environmentally friendly and modern places, aligned with the needs and interests of citizens. Likewise, training, political debate or dissemination and communication are also important to enhance the fundamental role of municipal administration.
But, above all, and in response to the joint and historic demands of the mayors, I will work with special emphasis on achieving greater and better local financing, with the commitment, in addition, to support the reform of the regional financing system.
The Federation has been transformed and has grown, it has broadened its horizons and will add successes to the municipalities. My commitment to achieve this is sure and determined. I have no doubt that we will achieve it under unity, because “together, we are stronger.”
