future

The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM) faces a series of crucial challenges in the coming years, which are directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. In a global context of climate change, digital transformation, social inequality and growing demand for public services, municipalities must play a key role in achieving these goals at the local level.

Environmental sustainability

One of the main challenges for FMRM will be promoting environmental sustainability in municipalities, promoting policies that favour the efficient use of natural resources, the transition towards renewable energies and adaptation to climate change. This includes improving waste management, promoting sustainable public transport and creating green infrastructures that mitigate the effects of climate change in urban and rural areas.

Equality

At a social level, municipalities will have to face the challenge of guaranteeing Equal opportunities and social inclusion. In this sense, the FMRM will promote initiatives that combat poverty, social exclusion and discrimination, creating spaces that favour the integration of vulnerable groups and ensure access to essential services such as education, health and housing. Likewise, it will be essential to promote the citizen participation to ensure that all voices, especially those of minorities, are heard in local decision-making processes.

Digital transformation

With regards to digital transformation, the FMRM has the opportunity to lead the modernization of local public administration, promoting the digitalization of municipal services and improving accessibility to information and participation through technological platforms. The drive of the smart city or “smart city” will also be key to improving the quality of life of citizens, optimizing public services and increasing efficiency in resource management.

Likewise, the municipalities of the Region of Murcia must contribute to the Promoting peace, justice and strong institutions at the local level, promoting transparency, the fight against corruption and democratic participation at all levels of government. The FMRM will be responsible for supporting municipalities in implementing policies that ensure more inclusive, equitable and transparent governance.

In short, the future challenges for the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia are broad and multidimensional, but at the same time, they are opportunities to advance in the achievement of the SDGs. Local action, led by the municipalities, will be decisive in achieving a more just, sustainable and prosperous future for all the people who live in the Region.
