The Federation of Municipalities held this morning at its headquarters the meeting of the Executive Committee, the most important decision-making body below the General Assembly. Nine mayors, together with the president Víctor Manuel López Abenza, form this committee in which they debate and decide on issues for the functioning of the organization.

The commission has ratified Antonio Moreno García, also a legal representative of the Federation, as the new general secretary of the organization, and has approved other very important issues such as the composition of the Working Commissions, or the designations of representatives of the Federation in the advisory bodies of the CARM, agreed with the vice president, following the democratic principle by which the FMRM is characterized.

In addition, other agreements have been ratified regarding projects that are highly beneficial for the Federation, and therefore for the municipalities of the region, such as the alliance with the University-Business Foundation for the presentation of an initiative on the Digital Rural Challenge, and the proposal to draft two projects financed with European funds, one of them on local adaptation to high temperatures, and another to support the promotion of businesses on sustainability run by young people.

In his report, in which he gives an account of his activity in the Federation, Víctor Manuel López has highlighted the events and conferences held, and the positive negotiations for the town councils achieved in these six months since his election as representative of the mayors. In addition, he has shared with the mayors who are members of the Executive Committee who attended today (Ceutí, Fortuna, Caravaca, Abarán, Jumilla, Los Alcázares, Beniel), his objectives as president.

“One of my main objectives will be to demand new and better local funding for local councils, because this is an essential challenge for everyone, as well as to maintain and promote the European commitment to the FMRM for the exchange of knowledge, the expansion of a network of contacts that benefit the functioning of the Federation, and therefore that of local entities, another source of funding, and the promotion of the participation of local councils in European projects.”

López Abenza took the opportunity to congratulate Antonio Moreno as the new general secretary, saying that “I have no doubt about the success that your work will bring,” and expressed his gratitude to Manuel Pato, the outgoing secretary, for “all the years dedicated to the organization, the results of which are more than proven, as the federation has been transformed and has grown substantially in 8 years.”

All items on the agenda were approved unanimously.
