The municipalities collaborate with the Region in the fight against smoking.
Municipalities will have smoke-free spaces
The 45 municipalities of the Region will collaborate with the Department of Health to develop actions against smoking as a preventive measure against the appearance of diseases. The actions will be carried out through the School of Health, which will coordinate the program.
Mayors and councillors from the Region's municipalities held a meeting at the headquarters of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, chaired by the Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, and the President of the FMRM, Joaquín Hernández, in which they requested the collaboration of local administrations, which are the closest to the citizens, to achieve the objective of Murcia being the first smoke-free region by 2025.
“From the town councils we will promote campaigns, activities and initiatives that will have an impact on a healthier population, towns and cities, which is why we are available to the Ministry of Health to collaborate on this interesting project,” said Hernández.
This is one of the first measures proposed by the Health School, which began its journey last March, with the aim of promoting education in society to provide the necessary and useful knowledge to take care of and enjoy health. “It is a complement to the health care we provide through the public health system,” said Villegas.
The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Public Health and Addictions, José Carlos Vicente, the Director General of Planning, Research, Pharmacy and Citizen Care, María Teresa Martínez, the Director of the School of Health, Jesús Ángel Sánchez, the President of the Commission of Health and Social Services, Mari Carmen Morales, and the Secretary General of the FMRM, Manuel Pato.
