More than 20 representatives from different regional entities and companies meet within the framework of the Promoter project funded by the European Union in which the FMRM participates together with partners from 10 European countries to bring solutions to adapt to the Region of Murcia.
The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, which has been working on the PROMOTER project on sustainable mobility since March 2023, has held its second meeting with political representatives, companies, universities and associations to discuss the improvements that can be applied to the Transport Master Plan of the Region of Murcia.
The participants in this meeting were: the General Director of Mobility and Transport of the Ministry of Development CARM, the University of Murcia (UMU), the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), Tranvía de Murcia, the City Councils of Murcia, Lorquí, Cieza and Alcantarilla, FROET, FREMM, MIWenergia, the Sustainable Development Foundation, the Official College of Technical Industrial Engineers (COITRIM), and Eurovértice Consultores.
Among the topics analyzed, the members of this working group have discussed the importance of metropolitan areas in sustainable mobility plans, as well as the need to promote the use of renewable energies applied to transport.
The conclusions highlighted the need to focus on sustainable public transport that takes into account the climatic reality of the region, in order to improve the lives of citizens. To achieve this objective, the group of experts insists on the need for shuttle transport, fast connections between transports, avoiding heat islands, and offering the service of dissuasive parking.
Director General María Dolores Solana has stated that the Department of Transport is willing to collaborate in improving mobility policies.
For his part, Manuel Pato, director of European Projects of the Federation of Municipalities, said that "it is necessary to create an umbrella entity that brings together local and regional entities to work on existing problems, as is the case of the Cartagena-Murcia axis, to avoid the formation of bottlenecks that are generated in the transit of daily traffic and to provide solutions to the needs of citizens."
During the day, good practices brought from Portugal to be adopted in our region were analysed, highlighting: The Sintra Greening Plan, the REAVIVA projects (green rehabilitation), I4EFFICIENCY (waste management), SMILE (energy communities), the Blue Green Axis and the Intermodal Social Mobility Framework, an example to be studied by the Region of Murcia, presented by Diego Barberán, a technician from the Lorquí City Council who accompanied the FMRM on the first study visit.
About the project
FMRM is participating in this project as part of the Interreg Europe programme as a partner, together with other entities from Italy, Portugal, Finland, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Portugal, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
Promoter aims to promote territorial strategies for sustainable mobility through green energy generation and consumption centres, and to enhance their dissemination throughout the urban territory, channelling part of its production to meet sustainable mobility needs for a carbon-free economy, thus contributing to the EU's objectives of climate neutrality and repowering.
The role of the Federation in this initiative is to support the improvement of public policies, in this case sustainable transport and renewable energy, through the exchange of good practices brought from Europe transferred to the region based on the Transport Master Plan of the Region of Murcia and exporting our good practices in the matter.
