The FMRM and the EU DG are making progress in launching local projects…

20200910 2

The Federation of Municipalities continues to seek support for the promotion of plans linked to local development of the 2030 Agenda.

The Secretary General of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM), Manuel Pato, met this morning at the Federation's facilities with the Director General of the European Union, Juan José Martínez Lozano (CARM), and the head of the EU Relations Service, Cristina Durán, to hold a conference aimed at raising awareness of best practices in European programs related to the European Union's Green Deal, and thus creating synergies between both administrations that promote local government projects within the 2030 Agenda.

The European Green Deal is the European Union's new growth strategy, which aims to support a "socially just" transition in which people, SMEs, and jobs can move toward a modern, resource-efficient, and climate-responsible economy. The Green Deal also aims to protect citizens' health and well-being from environmental risks.

Institutional collaboration policies for obtaining European funds

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the creation of a framework agreement between the two entities for collaboration in strengthening European relations, providing advice, and providing projects linked to European aid applicable to local authorities in the Region of Murcia.

The CARM and the FMRM will also open a new avenue for collecting local data from 2018 to the present, related to the European-funded programs developed by local governments during this period.

For his part, the Director General of the European Union explained that they are considering launching several lines of aid next year to financially and technically boost the submission of projects eligible for European funding and carried out by the region's municipalities.

According to Pato, an increasing number of municipalities are supporting projects that follow the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The Secretary General of the Federation of Municipalities explained that "at the FMRM, we are already immersed in a very important project with these same goals, in which several municipalities in the region will implement climate change adaptation projects. This line of work with the Directorate General of the EU will give us the opportunity to continue making progress."
