The Federation of Municipalities of the Region yesterday conveyed to the regional government its "discomfort" at the fact that it was not informed in advance of the decree that modifies the Environmental Protection Law, which converts the municipalities into environmental bodies. According to Manuel Pato, general secretary of the Federation, since 1988 the Region has had a system in place whereby issues that concern the municipalities first go through this body. "This is usually done and the surprise is that in this case it has not happened," he stressed. In this regard, Pato said he could not assess the substance of this matter, but he could assess the form.
At the meeting that López Miras held yesterday with the Federation of Municipalities, many mayors reproached him for taking decisions that affect the municipalities without consulting them or taking them into account. They said they did not understand why they had been given powers that they did not have before through this decree law, without having been previously consulted, reported Cadena SER.
