Hernández demands from López Miras an Extraordinary Works and Services Plan for 2020 for an amount of 50 million euros
The president of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, Joaquín Hernández, has asked the Regional Executive and its president, Fernando López Miras, to approve an urgent aid plan for the municipalities affected by the floods and an Extraordinary Works and Services Plan for 2020 for a total amount of 50 million euros to be able to invest in the recovery of our towns and cities so that they can return to normality as soon as possible.
Following the declaration of a Zone Seriously Affected by Civil Protection Emergency by the Council of Ministers on 21 September, in which urgent measures were adopted that entail up to 100% subsidy for town councils for emergency expenses and 50% for repair works on municipal infrastructure, equipment or facilities, Hernández requests that the Autonomous Community assume 50% of the remaining 25% and the local entities the other 25%.
“It is only fair that in a situation like the one we have experienced after the passage of the Dana storm, which has left municipalities completely devastated, all administrations assume their responsibility. In fact, other autonomous communities, such as Valencia and Andalusia, have approved measures and aid for their citizens in record time,” as highlighted by the president of the FMRM.
The aim of the FMRM is to ensure that collaboration between the three administrations ensures that 100% of the victims are covered in some way, since there is a significant percentage that are not insured and this is where the Autonomous Community should sign a series of direct aids.
Hernández took the opportunity to acknowledge the work of mayors who “despite going through some difficult days have risen to the occasion, on the front line of the battle and responding to their residents at all times.” He also asked for material and personal support to be able to continue with the clean-up work since, despite more than a week having passed, there are still areas that have been severely affected.
