On the occasion of Europe Day, the WFRM celebrates this May 9th by remembering all the projects we are working on.
Life CITYadap3 Project
The project falls within the Climate Action area of the LIFE Programme, within the topic of urban adaptation to climate change. Submitted projects must address the following areas:
- Development and implementation of adaptation initiatives following an integrated approach with mitigation actions, within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors.
- It should include the sectors: water, energy and construction, and actions related to improving the health and well-being of citizens.
- It must implement public-private partnership agreements to involve the private sector in financing climate change adaptation actions.
The municipalities of Alcantarilla, Lorquí and Molina de Segura are participating.

Training to increase society's resilience to natural or human-made disasters
The idea is to create, with several European partners, a course to train local leaders in empowering their local communities to cope with catastrophic events. European society increasingly suffers the effects of floods, earthquakes, major fires, extreme weather conditions, and more each year. In the Region of Murcia, major storms have recently hit coastal towns and those near the Segura River basin particularly hard. The loss of life and property takes its toll on the morale of the communities affected. While all government efforts are focused on providing rescue and technical solutions to infrastructural damage, little is done to restore the morale and strength of the affected community. An example would be Lorca, a town where part of its population continues to suffer the consequences of the 2011 earthquake, left homeless.
Program: Youth Capacity
The project will support youth policy makers to develop key skills in order to reach more young people in their areas of government and help them participate in civil society and express their views on their future. The project will develop partnerships between local and regional authorities.
The Youth Capacity project will also support the development of the capacities of workers in the youth departments of these organisations, training them in social skills that will help them to better carry out their work with young people.
Youth policy makers will also learn about methods to reach out to marginalised young people and prevent racism and intolerance through training on the “No hate speech” movement.
The project will support young people's participation in democratic life and help them connect with policy makers and express their opinion on issues concerning their lives and future. The project will also promote youth volunteering within the framework of the European Youth Service, so that as many organisations as possible are certified as host and sending organisations and will promote participation in voluntary activities.
