The Federation of Municipalities learns about new experiences in Latvia to boost the digital skills of public employees

The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM) is participating this week in Latvia in a new meeting of the European project Interreg Europe DSBPGovernance – Digital Skills for Better Public Governance , an initiative that works to improve the digital skills of public employees and move towards more efficient, accessible public services adapted to the new needs of citizens.

The Secretary General of the FMRM, Antonio Moreno, and the Head of Training, José Fernández, traveled to this meeting accompanied by Caridad de la Hera, Director General of Public Service and Social Dialogue of the CARM, and Antonio Mula, an official from the Cartagena City Council, thus reinforcing the training of the European exchange.

The meeting, which is being held from September 8 to 10 in Riga and other locations in Latvia , brings together the European partners of the project to learn about different experiences related to the training of public administration staff, the development of digital skills and the transformation of public services.

The first day provided firsthand insight into the Latvian model through representatives from the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development , the Ministry of Education and Science , and the Latvian School of Public Administration.

The experiences presented include learning and development systems for public employees, new training platforms and individual learning accounts, as well as various strategies for strengthening digital skills within public administrations. The program also includes visits to the Skills Development Center at the National Library of Latvia and the Baltic Computer Academy.

The representative of the Federation of Municipalities, Antonio Moreno , emphasized that " the digital transformation of our town halls is not just about incorporating new technological tools, but about ensuring that public employees have the necessary training and skills to use them effectively and put them at the service of the citizens. One of the FMRM's commitments is to bring these new tools to our members ."

Moreno also pointed out that " these types of European meetings allow us to learn about experiences that are already working in other territories, analyze what we can adapt to our reality and continue improving the training we offer to the municipalities of the Region of Murcia ."

From digital skills to better public services

The digital transformation of public administrations requires progress not only in technology but also in training. One of the main challenges is ensuring that public professionals have the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate new tools into their daily work and improve the delivery of services to citizens.

During the meeting, local experiences are also analyzed. The second day includes a visit to the Human Resources and Skills Development Center of the Zemgale Region in Jelgava, as well as the Jelgava Local Government Information and Operations Center , allowing participants to learn about solutions developed locally and their practical application in local administration.

Exchange experiences to apply them in the municipalities

This exchange adds to the work that the Federation has been developing within the framework of the project to identify needs, share tools and bring local entities closer to experiences that may be useful in their modernization and digital transformation processes.

The meeting in Latvia will conclude on Thursday, September 10, with a planning session between the partners aimed at reviewing the next steps and advancing the planned actions within the project.

With its participation in DSBPGovernance, the Federation continues working to bring European experiences, tools and models to the municipalities of the Region of Murcia that contribute to a local administration better prepared to face the digital transformation and offer better public services.
