Promoter. The Federation of Municipalities hosts an international conference to improve sustainable transportation and the use of renewable energy at the local level.

More than 70 people representing public entities from ten European countries will learn first-hand about the best practices in sustainable transport and the use of renewable energy in the Region of Murcia, and will support the transfer of best practices to our municipalities with their expert knowledge.

The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia adds a milestone to its progress on European projects. The FMRM organizes the study visit to the Region of Murcia of the partners of the PROMOTER project, financed by the European Union through the Interreg Europe program and co-financed by FEDER funds. The project deals with the improvement of policies on sustainable mobility and the use of renewable energies.

The three-day meeting, which will take place from 5 to 7 November, was opened this morning by the president of the FMRM, Víctor Manuel López Abenza, together with the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure of the Region of Murcia, Jorge García Montoro, at the Artillery Headquarters. The Regional Transport Plan for the Region of Murcia was discussed at this location, and during the day the good practices detected at a regional level will be analysed, starting with the Lorquí City Council, a local mobility study based on real-time traffic control that allows it to be adjusted, and the good practice of the city of Murcia with the Single Monitoring Centre (CEUS), an integrated operations and control centre for the city's Smart City platform open to the public, which allows smart decisions to be made based on data obtained from the city's sensorisation. During the afternoon, the company Disfrimur will be visited, where the development of innovation for the fleet managed by the company and the use of alternative fuels will be seen first-hand.

The representative of the mayors, López Abenza, has highlighted the importance of green mobility “for the development of a region that is moving towards sustainability”, and has said that “it is a pride for the Federation to be the host of an event that has become the main axis of sustainable transport in the region and in Europe thanks to the PROMOTER project, and the support of the advisors trained by entities and companies to influence public policies in this area”.

For his part, the Mayor of Murcia said that "the city of Murcia welcomes with great satisfaction this meeting of the partners of the PROMOTER project, which includes 11 countries of the European Union around nine specific projects that aim to eliminate fossil fuels in urban public transport processes in cities," explained the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, who also added that "we, for our part, are going to contribute our experience by showing all the European partners CEUS, the Single Control Centre, which measures vital and essential functions that take place in the city of Murcia."

The Minister of Public Works has defined the Transport Master Plan of the Region of Murcia in his speech, “as the regional roadmap for mobility, since it is the result of a broad process of social and municipal participation”. García Montoro added that “the regional Executive is committed to promoting sustainable mobility, and one of the most ambitious initiatives is to implement a new regional public transport system, fully accessible, sustainable and digital”.

On the second day of work, the focus will be on good practices of energy communities, and for this reason, the day will move to the municipality of Bullas where the community transformation offices (OTC) for the use of renewables at a regional level with local support and the energy community itself created in this municipality will be discussed. Along with these good practices, dynamic rates will be discussed, another example of energy savings that promotes the role of prosumers by the company. MIWenergy.

The sessions will end with an internal work session, where these good practices will be analysed in depth and the next steps will be proposed to transfer knowledge and improve public policies.

The main objective of the Federation of Municipalities, with the help of the group of experts formed by the aforementioned entities and companies, is to influence the Transport Master Plan of the Region of Murcia, for a better development of said strategy towards green mobility.
