FMRM and Community Intensify Mediation to Stop Evictions

The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and the Ministry of the Presidency and Development will intensify their collaborative work to promote mortgage mediation and intermediation as a tool to stop the situation of evictions. The president of the FMRM, Joaquín Hernández, has held a meeting with the minister,

Pedro Rivera, to improve coordination with other organizations, professional associations and financial institutions that intervene in the region in these types of situations.

To this end, the existing agreement between the two organisations will be renewed to facilitate access to the Mortgage and Housing Mediation Service, which is dependent on the Community, for citizens who find themselves in a difficult situation of non-payment, in order to avoid eviction proceedings as far as possible.

“It is essential that local councils can inform and advise our residents in a difficult situation, such as facing a possible eviction, and that we can offer them the support they need, since we are the closest administration and the first one they will turn to. Hence the need for our involvement,” as highlighted by the president of the FMRM.

Rivera, for his part, thanked the Federation of Municipalities for their participation, as well as the other entities that contribute to this service, because “we are faced with a social problem to which we must find a satisfactory solution between all of us, and all the efforts we put in are few.” Last year, the service, which is free, served 246 people, and so far this year, a hundred users have registered.

Other relevant municipal financing issues were also discussed during the meeting.
