FMRM IS PART OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY STRATEGY OF THE REGION OF MURCIA (2017 – 2030)
The CARM, the municipalities (FMRM), the employers (CROEM) and the unions (UGT – CCOO) formed, on November 23, the Management Committee, as a first step towards the Development of the Circular Economy Strategy of the Region of Murcia.
La European Commission and the European Parliament have approved a package of initiatives to build a Circular Economy in Europe. With this objective, it is intended to develop a new paradigm of economic model that closes the circle of design, production, consumption and waste management, thus creating a Green, circular and competitive Europe. A circular economy, which transforms our waste into resources, offers a solution to the environmental crisis that we will suffer with the linear economic model of development. We cannot build our future on the “take, make and throw away” model.
The initiative taken by the CARM is an important and positive step that should lead to a change in the production system, as well as a new reformulation of the way of doing business. However, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, estimates that this new model can create around 2.000 direct jobs in three years.
The role of cities is fundamental for the implementation of the new development model represented by the circular economy, a formula in which the revaluation of waste, the preservation of resources and the trend towards zero waste opens the door to sustainable growth and competitiveness. For this reason, municipalities and Local Entities are the first line for the implementation of the Circular Economy. Hence the Paris Agreement (2015) “European cities in favour of a Circular Economy” and the Spanish replica of the Seville Declaration.
In July of this year, the FMRM approved working to incorporate the Murcian municipalities into the commitment of the "cities for the circular economy", since together with the 17 sustainable development objectives of the 2030 agenda, they will be the main axes of the Local Agenda in the coming years.
