It is with sadness that I write these few lines to express, as President of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM), my condolences and sorrow, and those of all 45 municipalities in the Region of Murcia, on the passing of Manuel Carrasco Muñoz, mayor of Águilas for 14 years. We extend our condolences first and foremost to his wife, Martirio, his children, Domingo and Lina, and the rest of his family. And of course, this is a time to remember his town, Águilas, of which he always prided himself and for which he was a tenacious fighter.

Manuel was a staunch municipalist. On October 28, 1983, he was one of the mayors who signed the Constituent Act of the Federation of Municipalities (FMRM), which I now preside over. I can do this after 35 years thanks to the fact that mayors of the stature of Manuel Carrasco worked, pushed, and lived for the city councils to become the benchmark administration, the home of all citizens, the institution that sought, and seeks, to meet their needs and promote a wide range of local services. And if that weren't enough, they made time to devote themselves to the common problems of the rest of the city councils through the FMRM.

Rest in peace, Manuel Carrasco, you will always be in our memories.

Maria Dolores Muñoz
President of the FMRM
