The Federation of Municipalities will coordinate pilot actions for adaptation to climate change in the municipalities of Alcantarilla, Molina and Lorquí

The City Life AdaP3 project, which has already been led by the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and which consists of coordinating the actions of three municipalities in the region and one in Italy for the adaptation of their localities to climate change, has held its launching session today by the European Commission.

This event, held via videoconference, presented the latest developments in European policies related to climate action, and included a pooling of projects from all participants in Europe.

For its part, the FMRM thus becomes a pioneer, since of the six climate change adaptation projects in urban areas that will be carried out on our continent, the Federation is responsible for one of them, receiving funding of 1,15 million euros for its execution.

These include the creation of urban shade in Molina de Segura, a bicycle lane connecting the town centre with the industrial estate in the case of Alcantarilla, to encourage the use of bicycles and reduce pollution caused by vehicles, and the consolidation of hillocks in the town centre in Lorquí.

Agreements with the private sector

One of the priorities and innovations of this project is the implementation of collaboration agreements to involve the private sector of the participating municipalities in financing climate change adaptation actions.

In addition to the municipalities of the region already mentioned, the other participants in this project are the City Council of Reggio Emilia, EuroVértice Consultores and the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the University of Murcia.
