Ángel Gabilondo asked the councillors for fluid communication between the local public administration and the Ombudsman's office for a better resolution of citizen requests
The President of the Federation of Municipalities, María Dolores Muñoz, received yesterday at the headquarters of the organization the Ombudsman Ángel Gabilondo, who traveled to Murcia to make a route through some of the most representative regional administrations, with the aim of publicizing the tasks of the Ombudsman's office at a national level.
The meeting was attended by the majority of the mayors who make up the Executive Committee of the FMRM, chaired by Lola Muñoz, who is also the mayor of Bullas. The councillors present were those of Ulea, Lorca, Beniel, Cieza, Los Alcázares and Molina de Segura, who were also accompanied by the Secretary General of the Federation, Manuel Pato.
Everyone listened to Ángel Gabilondo with special attention to learn about the most common issues that are repeated among the complaints that citizens raise to the Ombudsman, among which are noise, road closures due to construction work, among many others.
During the meeting, Gabilondo asked the mayors to speed up the resolution of citizens' complaints and, above all, to ensure smooth coordination and communication between administrations in order to achieve this objective.
The Ombudsman stated that "citizens feel helpless" before the Administration. His intention, he explained, is to ensure that people who ask him for protection feel that "their rights are respected" and that they are attended to without delay.
For their part, the FMRM representatives thanked him for this visit, which they considered “useful and gratifying,” and said they were delighted that the Ombudsman had visited this organization for the first time in history, which, as its members assure, “is the closest to citizens, and therefore the one that first receives complaints about what they feel are their problems.”
