The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM), the Ministry of the Environment and Ecoembes have presented the awards to the municipalities with the most recycling in the Region of Murcia in 2017.

Abarán was the municipality that recycled the most, depositing a total of 18,8 kg/inhabitant of light packaging, for which it was awarded 6.000 euros. In addition, it also received the award for the municipality with the highest percentage increase above the regional average, increasing its contribution by 12,8% compared to the previous year. For this reason, it received an additional prize of 5.000 euros. Both awards consolidate it as the municipality that recycles the most in the Region of Murcia.

On the other hand, the Mazarrón City Council has achieved the highest percentage increase in the collection of light packaging in those municipalities that represent values below the regional average, being awarded 4.000 euros for achieving an increase of 37,8%. All the prizes will be allocated to social work projects in the respective municipalities.

The aim of this initiative is to encourage citizen participation in recycling light packaging and the commitment of local administrations to achieve the collection targets set by the European Union.
