The President of the FEMP , Abel Caballero , condemns the Barcelona attack on behalf of all Spanish Mayors
The FEMP expresses its solidarity and affection to the victims, their families and all the people of Barcelona. It calls for five minutes of silence tomorrow at 12 noon in all the Town Halls of Spain and three days of mourning with flags at half-mast in the Town Halls.
Madrid, August 17, 2017 – The President of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), Abel Caballero , on behalf of Spanish local governments, strongly condemned the attack carried out this afternoon in Barcelona and expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims and the people of Barcelona. “All our love and affection go out to the families of the victims, and with heartfelt condolences. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
Abel Caballero has described the attack as “an act of extreme cruelty, which shows the senselessness and the absence of any human value of those who commit or inspire them”. The FEMP asks the Town Councils, Provincial Councils, Island Councils and Island Councils to call on their residents tomorrow Friday, at 12 noon, to observe five minutes of silence in front of the Town Halls as a sign of rejection of these events “which leave the heart of any good person frozen”.
Likewise, the FEMP invites the local councils to keep their flags at half-mast for three days as a sign of mourning. Caballero has sent his solidarity to the Mayor of Barcelona and the City Council of this city, to whom he offers all the support they need. He has also expressed his condolences to the Catalan people, while he wants to show the desire for “unity” of all institutions, of the State, autonomous and local, and of all political parties to succeed in defeating and ending those who seek to destroy coexistence through terror. “Terrorism once again causes us enormous pain, but they will not destroy our democracy and our coexistence.”
