The Executive Committee of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM) has agreed, at its meeting held today, to formally request the Government Delegate in the Region of Murcia to establish, as soon as possible, a coordination committee between the Government Delegation and the municipalities of the Region.
The objective of this initiative is to facilitate a practical, coordinated and effective application of Royal Decree 316/2026, of April 14, which modifies the Regulation of Organic Law 4/2000 on the rights and freedoms of foreigners in Spain and their social integration, within the framework of the extraordinary regularization process.
The Federation emphasizes that this commission will allow for the establishment of streamlined cooperation mechanisms between administrations, in order to resolve doubts and issues related to the processing of procedures, the required conditions, and the various administrative actions involved. All of this is aimed at preventing dysfunctions or delays that could harm beneficiaries and ensuring efficient management at the local level.
To form part of this commission, the FMRM has appointed its president, Víctor Manuel López Abenza; the first and second vice presidents, Sonia Almela Martínez and Catalina Herrera López, mayors of Ceutí and Fortuna respectively; as well as the general secretary of the Federation, Antonio Moreno.
The Federation of Municipalities has also conveyed its full willingness to finalize, together with the Government Delegation, the definitive composition, operation and work schedule of this commission, stressing that institutional cooperation is essential for the proper development of this measure with a significant administrative and social impact.
For his part, the president of the FMMR, Víctor Manuel López, stated that, “we are facing an extremely complex process that requires maximum coordination between administrations. The Federation of Municipalities wants to anticipate this in order to avoid any dysfunctions that could harm the beneficiaries and the municipalities themselves.”
“The municipalities will be at the forefront of managing this extraordinary regularization, and that is why it is essential to have clear, agile and direct channels with the Government Delegation,” he added.
Antonio Moreno, general secretary of the Murcian Federation of Municipalities, also commented that “our objective is to guarantee that this process unfolds with legal certainty, efficiency, and without unnecessary delays. We cannot allow a lack of coordination to generate uncertainty or overwhelm municipal services, and harm the foreign nationals for whom the regulation is intended.”
